My Hands Create The Stories Of My Heart

Artist Statement
My hands speak volumes about my love for creativity and spirituality. When they move along a piano or guitar to create music, or when they dip into paint, they come alive. They become full of expression as they dance around the canvas. The thread between music and art is indistinct and intertwined. This I know as I enter a new creative life as an abstract painter.
Creating art isn’t just a physical endeavor; it’s a journey of emotion and spirituality. My art reflects my life—a collection of moments, experiences, and feelings. It captures the good, the bad, and everything in between. I have found that creating art has many similarities to creating music. There’s a composition, a melody, lyrics, harmony, and a rhythm that all come into play until it forms a cohesive piece.
My style is fresh, loose, and abstract. I often paint with my hands, and I love to work on large canvases; they feel like an extension of me. I like to start by exploring lines and marks or sometimes by laying down a ground color. This process creates a conversation and elicits a response. The surprises that emerge from the layers bring me joy. Art is a constant reminder of life’s beauty beneath the surface.
Color has a tremendous emotional impact. Some days, I sit and simply mix and play with color. How often do we give ourselves permission to play? When I first began painting, it was exactly that—tapping into the joy and freedom to be curious and learn as much as I could without pressure.
I’ll admit, I’m obsessed. Obsessed with making this art express what I feel. Obsessed with creating something that sings with color, with marks and lines that lead the eye, with layers that reveal and then conceal, and with shapes that drift across the canvas.
I’m grateful that I have given myself the gift of time to explore, create, and learn new things. I am now experiencing this beautiful journey through art and life.
Growing up in the SF Bay Area, Linnie’s journey through the world of arts began with music. As a singer/songwriter she played in numerous clubs and venues, and was fortunate to be surrounded by so many wonderful performing artists in the 70s and 80s. She eventually moved to the lush landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. While raising her three sons, she also sold Real Estate for over 25 years.
It was later in life, that Linnie discovered a new avenue for self-expression—visual art. Among the styles she encountered, Linnie’s heart was led down the path to abstract expressionism. Studying with master teaching artists, Krista Harris, Nick Wilton, and Jane Burton, she explores the freedom of form and emotional depth in the abstract.
With passion and a deep sense of gratitude for her newfound artistic journey, Linnie dedicates herself wholeheartedly to honing her craft in her studio in Olympia, Washington. For Linnie art isn’t just a passion it’s become her way of life and how she sees the world. It’s a journey of self discovery and a celebration of the beauty that surrounds us.
